New Blog--Studio H Illustrations

Hi Everyone!!

I know it's been forever since I've posted anything. I've had a lot going on in my life and was feeling quite burned out.  For those that are still following, I have created a new blog and a new Etsy shop.  I have transferred my old blog (So Chic Decor) over to the new one that corresponds with my new shop.  I hope you will take the time to check it out!

And my new Etsy shop

Many of you might be wondering why I switched my blog and my shop.  My main reason is that I felt I wasn't doing what I really wanted to do.  While I love home decor and interior design, it wasn't my area of expertise and I really just want to create art for others to enjoy!  I have been in love with Illustration for a long time and there was just something pulling me in that direction. I still have a lot to learn but I'm getting there!

I would love it if you would check out the new blog and the my Etsy shop! Stop by and say hi and let me know what you think!

It's been awhile...

Hi everyone! It's Holly from So Chic Decor.  How have you been?  I just want to apologize profusely for being absent from my blog.  For awhile I had been working only 30 hours at the hospital and so working, running a blog, and having time for my little guy was manageable. However, it wasn't quite paying the bills. Because of this, I upped my hours back up to 40 and with it being a busy time of the year at the hospital, I have been exhausted.

It's amazing how just adding one extra shift to a work week can really change the entire week. By the time I get home, get dinner made, hang out with the little guy, and get him to bed, I'm exhausted.  I also suffer from migraines and they were something else last week.

That being said, I  haven't really wanted to write.  My mind just wants to shut off after a long day and on my days off, there is so much catching up to do.  Being a single mom is probably the hardest job I have ever had.

I'm going to stop complaining now...and fill you in on the last couple of days.  Yesterday was my birthday and not just any birthday. Yesterday, I turned 30.  It really wasn't quite as bad as I was expecting. I went out Saturday night with some friends, had some great food and a few drinks. At around midnight, they thought it was appropriate to buy (and make) me a birthday cake. So yes, we went to Walmart, picked up a cake mix, went back to a friends house and baked it.  I honestly thought it was a great way to spend my last weekend in my twenties!

Yesterday my family got together, made enchiladas, and enjoyed some fantastic German Chocolate cake. And of course I got to open a few gifts. My parents bought me this gorgeous new comforter set for my bed.

Isn't it gorgeous??

On that note, I hope you will all forgive me for being gone. I will continue to write, but it may just not be quite as often as I'd like. Hopefully some day soon I can afford to work fewer hours and do more of what I love, which is my art and my writing.

Keep in touch!

Tuesday's Touch of Teal

 TUESDAY'S TOUCH OF TEAL

Hello!!  Holly from So Chic decor here and I'm bring to you a new type of post for Tuesdays here on my blog. I loved the idea of Monday's Pop of Purple from The Zhush and since I'm loving Teal right now I thought it would be a great idea for Tuesdays!

What does it mean to you?

"Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect. It means that you have decided to look beyond the imperfections."
~Author Unknown

Sometimes my life isn't perfect. Actually it's rarely perfect. I feel like I work too much, spend too little time with my son, and have way too much of the world on my shoulders. I don't make a lot of money and I've been single so long I don't even remember what it feels like to be taken out on a date. My Friday night date is a bowl of popcorn shared between the little guy and I, while he watches another episode of Mickey Mouse.

However, seeing him smile and the little giggle that escapes his lips is better than any date I've ever been on.  And I might not make a lot of money but I make enough to put dinner on the table, pay our rent, send him to a nice preschool, and have a little bit left over.

There are times when things just aren't going my way. My life gets out of control and I wish I could just push pause. However, when things are calm and I hear the imagination and the laughter coming from my son's room, I think that this is happiness.

Color + Inspiration -- Yellow

Good morning! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  Mine went by very quickly...too quickly. Saturday I spent the morning cleaning and doing laundry and then the little guy and I went to a birthday party that afternoon.  And Sunday...well Sunday I had to work.  It's definitely not the best way to spend a Sunday but at least I had Saturday off.

I'm really hoping to get more done this week then I did last.  It was definitely a stressful week and I'm jumping into this week with a more hopeful and positive attitude.

I thought a great way to start off this week would be to show some bright and cheerful yellow photos! Yellow is one of those colors that has a double meaning. For many, yellow symbolizes happiness and joy, but it can also symbolize deceit.  Yellow signifies the coming home of loved ones from a war, yet is a sign of mourning in Egypt. For Japan, yellow is the color of courage.

Yellow is a great color that can be used in Spring or Fall. When mixed with bright oranges and greens, you get a very spring like feel.  However, take yellow and mix it with deep reds, browns, and oranges, and you quickly transition to a fall look.

Just take a look at these beautiful yellow photos and hopefully they put you in a cheerful mood.

What does yellow mean for you?
